Description
Satsuma bud vase with cartouches holding haloed Buddha deities and Shinto priests above the wide shoulder of the vase. A small Shimazu clan crest is embedded at the neck near applied handles. Four panels fromthe shoulder t the flared base hold finely painted figures, including noble ladies at garden-viewing veranda (engawa), and armored Samurai. Gold embellishments throughout. Interior of ecru crackle glaze. Gold maker’s at foot ring obliterated by age. 6″ high. 3-1/2″ diameter at shoulder. 2-7/8″ diameter at base. 1-7/8″ at mouth. Late Meiji-Taisho.
